Big Jammer Door Brace... January 18, 2007 E. Fitzgerald (Chi) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
saves the day. It makes my family sleep easier and more secure at night. We're in a two unit apartment building and there is an entry door and hall before our units. The last person in at night places the brace under the knob, so we all know we've eliminated the threat of someone coming in though the front door.
If someone were to try to force the door, (I don't think theres a chance of them getting through the jammer) the worst thing that would happen is that the knob would tighten, making it difficult to turn. We solved this problem after a trial run and found that if you unscrew the knob and reassemble it in the door, it works fine. We think it's due to the stress of the knob against the door. I still can't see any part of the door failing either.
Good Luck!!
Peace of Mind with the Jammer April 11, 2009 Lacey Anderson (PuddleHopper) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I'm a 28 yr old woman who lives alone in a Apartment complex and The jammer gives me piece of mind! I bought two one for the front door and my sliding glass door. The only thing is that it doesn't fit the best in the sliding glass door but its wedged in there so tight that I'm not sure I'll ever be able to move it LOL and that alone gives me piece of mind!!! HAHA. Its a good product to have and would recommend this to everyone. Good Luck!
Best Constructed Door Jam Ever December 27, 2009 Fixer At Work (Oklahoma, USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
A friend bought this door jam for me after an attempted break in at our home through the patio sliding glass door while my husband was TDY. We took the rubber door knob piece off and put in a rubber stopper that we found at the hardware store. Then he placed it in the middle of the patio door to secure the door closed because the robber had broke the handle and lock trying to get in. The robber ran away when our alarm went off but the patio door was ruined. This door jam is ALL METAL, my friend found the correct hole for the width of the door, and once it was tightly in place it didn't move. I felt much safer in our home alone with this door jam in place until the patio door could be replaced. Three years later, present time, I gave this same door jam to my friend because her husband is going TDY. Just before the holidays someone tried to break in through the back door. Their alarm went off and four police cars were sent to her home. The police went around back to check the door and saw the foor imprint where the robber was kicking the door but couldn't get in. The police couldn't get in either and after five minutes thought that they had a suspect barricaded inside the house. The police (with guns out) had to open the garage door and go in through the kitchen door to check the house. When they came back outside the first thing they said was how IMPRESSED they were with her door jam and how it was still holding her back door tightly shut even though the robber had kicked it hard enough to activate the alarm and of course break the door frame. My husband put three board across the door and put the door jam back on the door knob to secure the door so that her alarm could be turned on and until the door could be replaced. This is absolutely that best door jam EVER! And that is why I bought two more. But the store had switched to a different one that had a metal rod but a plastic piece for the door knob. I thought if someone kicks the door that plastic is going to break and the rod will just fall over and the robber will get inside. So I had to go online to find the one that I had, the MACE Big Jammer Door Brace, and that is the perfect name for it. I highly recommend this door jam for its quality construction of all metal and two large rubber ends, nothing on this product will ever break.
Great security; poor instructions December 20, 2009 scooper47 (New England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The item itself is outstanding. Very heavy construction, many adjustments possible, very reasonable price. The top and bottom are made of a soft rubber, which means that the top will fit a variety of door handles and the bottom provides for a great deal of friction. My complaints are only with the instructions, which leave out two important pieces on information. 1) The holes that allow for adjustments are not aligned just vertically, but also in rows. This means that for a given door, you may not only have to push and pull, but also twist to get the right length. Doing so puts the rubber top and bottom foot out of alignment. It took me maybe 30 seconds to realize that I could also twist them and get it to work. Maybe that is obvious, but at a time when even sleeping pills come with the warning "May cause drowsiness," the instructions should point that out. 2) The instructions do not mention a pin with a ring through it that comes with the package. I assume you put it through opposing holes once you have the right length, but is this necessary? Is it for added strength or basic security? If you lose it, can you still use the bar? I would like to know. Still, I checked all the security bars on Amazon, and I think that considering quality and price, this one is the best.
Huge bang for the buck April 10, 2009 Chuong (Houston, TX) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got this for $12 (free shipping). I needed 3, but weren't so sure of the quality since the price is so low. So, I ordered 1 first. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality for any price. I've read reviews for some other similar products, and some complained the spring loaded pins would pop in allowing the jammer to collapse, which then allow the door to open. With this one, however, they gave me a fixed pin (lock pin) so I'll know this won't ever happen with this jammer. So, I highly recommend this product for anyone. Even if you think your house is in the best neighborhood, buying this and giving my wife a peace of mind is priceless.
