Love It!! June 6, 2010 Donna J. Martin (Tallahassee, FL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I did a lot of research before I purchased a reel mower. Even though this mower did not have a lot of reviews I took a chance. The company that makes the mowers is in the US for starters. I have a very small yard. I can get up at 7 am and cut my grass without disturbing anyone. You don't want your grass to get to high or it will just push down the grass and it want hit the blades. I have found if you go through some thick grass you can go over it again at a different angle and it will cut all the clippings again almost like mulching it.
This little mower does everthing I need for it to do. I don't have to pull a cord, go get gas or breath the fumes. It cuts my grass just fine.
Made in USA! July 6, 2010 Donald C. Smith (Smyrna, GA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I simply love my Greenworks real lawnmower. Sometimes I find myself mowing the lawn more often than it needs it. The sound it makes as it slices through the grass is comforting. The quality of the cut is simply better than you can get with a power mower. The first time I used it I had the blade set too low and it simply plowed through 4 weeks of growth. Of course grass that is cut too short doesn't look good and is subject to diseases, excess thatch generally looking unheathy. I have it set up higher now and the lawn looks better than I've ever seen it. I also like the uniuque style and comfort of the handle.
Most of the manufacturers have started having their mowers made in China. In order to get a lower price they've substituted plastics where there used to be metal. The most common problem I read about a lawnmower formally made in the US is that the sprocket or gear or whatever in the blade drive is now plastic and it breaks. The Greeworks has stuck with steel. This is the only mower that I've found that has apparently made no shortcuts. It appears that Greenworks places a high value on quality, and the price is definately right.
Did I mention that it's made in the USA out of American steel?
Good value for a reel lawn mower May 12, 2010 BBS, Bay Area, CA (Bay Area, CA USA) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I am a retired structural engineer and I purchased this mower for a daughter that has a rented home with a very small lawn. She can save $100/month by taking care of the yard herself. She particularly wanted a manual mower so that she wouldn't have to deal with gasoline and 2-stroke oil.
This mower would not be suitable for me because I have quite a large lawn and many trees and also need a powerful mower that can pick up leaves and flower petals as well as cut the grass. In the summer I also like to easily convert my mower into mulch-mode so that the clippings are cut fine enough to be mulched into the lawn rather than be caught in a grass catcher.
This Greenworks 18-inch 5-blade mower with grass catcher has a 4-year warranty and is excellent value for money. The assembly is quick and easy, just 8 nuts and bolts are used to assemble the handle structure which is also very easily removable in one piece. Unlike many other reel mowers that I considered this one has a Greenworks grass catcher that attaches firmly to the mower on each side and also clips onto the handle assembly. It does its job well and if you adjust the length of the strap that connects to the handle assembly properly and snap the supports on each side of the catcher so that they are fully extended it will look just like the picture, will not drag on the ground, and almost all of the clippings will end up in the bag. One other advantage of reel mowers, especially a 5-bladed one such as this is that the clippings are very fine and much smaller than those produced by a rotary, gas powered mower. Thus if you cut your lawn weekly in the summer you can probably dispense with the bag and allow the small clippings to fall into the lawn where they will decay and add humus to the soil. A reel mower is not suitable for cutting tall grass so make sure that you cut the grass on a very regular basis.
If you are prepared to pay 2-3 times the price then there are higher quality reel lawn mowers available at amazon.com. In particular, the best, a German product by Brill, uses harder steel for the cutting edges and will require sharpening a lot less often.
does a pretty good job July 10, 2010 Jason C. Hinchcliffe 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Cheap and easy to put together.
Quite as to be expected.
Cuts ok, you have to make several passes if you want to catch all the stragglers. If you insist on having your lawn all the same length then I would not recommend this mower. If however you can live with a little more natural looking lawn then it fits the bill.
not good for weeds! June 28, 2010 adelesbooks 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I loved this reel mower. It was easy to put together and the bag is easy to attach if I need it. Also, It is easy to mow with. The biggest downside is that it doesn't cut weeds! Dandelions sprout like mad on my lawn and the reel mower will not cut them down. It is a great mower for just grass and I would recommend it for lawns if they do not have a lot of weeds.
